Pen Slim 4-Way Selvedge Air Jeans

In the pursuit of innovation Kato has created their latest achievement in denim. The idea for Selvedge Air was born out of the love for old vintage denim and the need for comfort. They wanted to introduce a denim that had the look and feel of a 15oz denim but one felt light and very comfortable when worn. After a very long development process with a highly capable mill in Japan, Kato was finally able to make this vision a reality.

Instead of using the usual 3 X 1 weave of standard denim, Kato implemented a 5 x 1 weave. This creates a denim with a higher surface thread count but a lower overall thread count, making it lighter and still durable. The low tension yarns and loose denim weave contribute to the thicker look of the denim while maintaining its light feel. The overall result is a vintage textured denim that looks like heavy weight and feels like a lightweight.

Kato's premium denim is inspired by the classic vintage blue jean. Their Premium Japanese 4-Way Stretch Selvedge denim story starts in Japan where the fabric is developed at one of the oldest denim mills. Kato blends a unique 4 way stretch material with selvedge denim to create a specific amount of stretch and comfort you wouldn’t typically get with selvedge denim. This 360 degree of stretch gives the wearer comfort from every angle no matter what they are doing.

Kato's 4-Way Stretch selvedge fabric is weaved using vintage shuttle looms. Rolls of denim fabric are then brought into our workshop in Los Angeles where each pair goes through a 60 to 90 day process of cut, sew, washing and testing. With 4 fits available in multiple weights (see fit guide) and washes, the style options are endless.

The sizes are US standard. If you're unsure about a size to choose, you'd go with your go-to size. Please keep in mind that since raw jeans stretch out over time, the best first fit would be tight.

The Pen is a slim fit model. Sizes vary between brands. Please measure the waistband of your favorite pants and compare with our actual measurements below.Please allow a tolerance of +/- .5 inches. Raw jeans and heavier styles feel tighter. Raw jeans will reduce roughly 3 - 5% throughout the jean after the first wash and dry.
